The Town of Culver is ready to proceed with a certificate of substantial completion for upgrades to the town’s water treatment plant. The town council voted Tuesday to close out the project and pay the remaining claims to Midwestern Engineers and project manager Michiana Contracting.
Town Attorney Jim Clevenger had previously expressed concerns about paying Michiana Contracting the full amount, questioning whether they were responsible for delays in the project. But now he seems satisfied with the company’s explanation that the delays were the fault of a supplier and out of Michiana Contracting’s control.
Council President Ginny Bess Munroe said she was also ready to move ahead. “I’m comfortable with where we’re going to land, with how the numbers are coming out,” she said. “Personally, I was comfortable with your recommendation, as well, that we just pay out the rest of your fee and theirs and call it a day. I feel comfortable. I think the work looks great.”
It was also noted that after all the changes with the project, it ended up being within $2,000 of its original budget, which is considered good for a project that size. Council members hope to finalize the financial arrangements at an upcoming meeting.
Work on the concrete floors was set to wrap up earlier this week, with only some cleanup work remaining.
