The Starke County Community Foundation hosted a profitable 20th anniversary open house at its new location in conjunction with #GivingTuesday. The local nonprofit raised $1,120 to help better the quality of life in Starke County.
The SCCF recently moved into the former N.J.-S.P. Middle School office, which it is renting from the school corporation.
SCCF Development Director Sarah Origer says #GivingTuesday offers a break from shopping for perfect Christmas presents and provides an opportunity for individuals to give a gift to the entire community that will continue to give forever.
This is the second year SCCF has taken part in #GivingTuesday. The celebration of philanthropy was born at the 92nd Street Y in New York in 2012. The social media hashtag encourages individuals, families, nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations to share with one another how they’re making a difference on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
It also encourages the donation of time, resources, and talents to address local need. #GivingTuesday harnesses the potential of the generosity of people around the world to bring real change in their communities.
The Starke County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Northern Indiana Community Foundation, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) public trust. Its mission is to improve the local quality of life in our communities by assisting donors in fulfilling their charitable wishes. That is done by building endowment funds with contributions, both large and small.
