Memorial Fund Established for Crash Victim’s Unborn Son

Michael “Bubba” Shorter

A memorial fund has been set up at a local bank for the unborn son of the Star City man killed in a Saturday motorcycle crash. Michael “Bubba” Shorter and his wife, Brandi, were both thrown from his Harley-Davidson when a deer entered their path on a rural roadway in Star City.

Bubba suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Pulaski Memorial Hospital to be airlifted to South Bend, where he died.

Brandi was also airlifted to South Bend and is expected to make a full recovery. She’s pregnant with the couple’s first child.

The Michael Shorter Memorial Fund has been established at Alliance Bank in Winamac for future support of their son.

A celebration of life service will take place Saturday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. EST at the Winamac Church of the Nazarene. Visitation is Friday, Jan. 27 from 2 until 9 p.m. at the church, with an Indiana Volunteer Firefighter’s Memorial Service at 7 p.m.

Shorter was an active member of the Star City Volunteer Fire Department. Memorial contributions may also be made to the department in memory of “Bubba.”
