The Eastern Pulaski School Corporation is adding a couple of new buses and a van to its transportation fleet. Superintendent Dan Foster says they’re buying two 78-passenger buses from Midwest Transit and a new van with lift.
“We have a smaller school bus, but sometimes on occasion we have an extracurricular activity or something that would require a lift, and we don’t have the ability to do that,” Foster said.
Additionally anyone with training and an Indiana driver’s license can be insured and will be able to drive the van, according to Foster. That’s a big change from the small yellow bus, which must be driven by a bus driver who holds a yellow card.
Foster says Eastern Pulaski transports special needs students daily to Logansport in a yellow school bus with a lift. He says the van can be used if the bus or a driver is not available.
The van will also be purchased from Midwest Transit. Foster says the corporation is trading in two full-size buses to offset the purchase price. They’re not trading in a white van at this time, because the older one in their fleet is still passing inspections, albeit on a more frequent schedule.
Money for the bus purchases will come from the transportation line item in the school corporation’s budget.
