The Hamlet Police Department may soon have a second full-time officer.
Until now, Town Marshal Clint Norem has been using part-time help. But on Wednesday, he told the town council he’s ready to hire a full-time deputy. “I’m just going to put out that we’re going to accept applications, and we’re going to go through a hiring process,” he explained. “I think we pretty well have an idea of what the finances and everything are going to be, so there shouldn’t be any issues there.”
Money for a full-time deputy is included in the town’s budget. Norem said Wednesday that he doesn’t have any specific candidates in mind for the position.
Meanwhile, Norem also reported that one of his part-time officers has resigned, due to full-time work commitments elsewhere. However, Norem said the change will have a minimal impact on the police department’s schedule.
