A couple of local lawmakers had a hand in crafting the first bill signed into law by Gov. Eric Holcomb. Sen. Ed Charbonneau and Rep. Jim Pressel were among the sponsors of House Enrolled Act 1507. It provides more opportunities for communities to transport Hoosier students with developmental disabilities.
Appearing on “Grossman in the Morning” yesterday, Pressel explained the bill was prompted by a prohibition against Special Olympics athletes in Porter County being allowed to use school buses to travel to and from competitions because they were not a state-accredited agency.
Pressel says the change in the law will help students throughout Indiana.
The bill passed both the House and Senate unanimously. It takes effect immediately.
