Indiana’s public schools can now have their water tested for lead at no cost. The Indiana Finance Authority officially launched the lead sampling program last week, as part of its environmental programs division.
Under the program, contractors will test water from several sources in school facilities, such as drinking fountains, ice machines, and food-preparation sinks. While the IFA only expects funding levels to cover one round of testing for each school corporation, officials note that the IFA’s State Revolving Fund loan programs can be used to help correct potential problems.
To sign up for the program, school corporations are asked to fill out an online questionnaire by April 1. More information can be found on the IFA website.
