Oregon-Davis High School students may soon be able to become certified lifeguards as part of their coursework.
On Monday, the school board approved the addition of Lifeguarding as an elective PE course, according to O-D Superintendent Don Harman. “From the short time I’ve been in this community and in this area, there is a shortage of lifeguards,” he explains. “And if we can help our students be lifeguard certified, then that would help them in employment and that would also help us, so we could have some lifeguards to possibly have opportunities to open up our pool to our community.”
He says to enroll in the Lifeguarding class, students will need to have completed their first year of PE and be at least 15 years old. The school hopes to begin offering the class this fall.
