A measure sponsored by Rep. Jim Pressel of Rolling Prairie would provide more transportation options for Hoosier students with developmental disabilities.
It would allow school corporations to enter into agreements with agencies like Special Olympics for the use of school buses to transport passengers.
Pressel says this would allow Special Olympics athletes to travel and compete while representing the community. It would also allow for transportation to be provided to students not living within the contracted school’s district if involved with the organization using the bus.
The measure passed unanimously in the House and is now headed to the Senate for further consideration.
Pressel represents House District 20, which includes portions of LaPorte and Starke Counties.
