The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department’s reserve program is up and running. Sheriff Jeff Richwine told the county commissioners Monday the program will help boost police presence without a lot of cost. “We’ve got four guys that we’ve got through the 40-hour pre-basic course,” he explained. “One of them’s still got to finish up a test. We’re starting to try to get some of them outfitted, and they’ll start riding with the other guys here pretty soon. So it looks like, I think, they’ve got four good candidates.”
Commissioner Bud Krohn Jr. complimented Richwine, saying there’s been a noticeable increase in police presence. “I think somebody lit a firecracker in the last month. You see guys out on patrol – I’ve never seen them out there before,” he said. “They’re all over. They really stepped it up.”
Richwine said that while his department includes many young officers, they have a good work ethic and have been doing a good job so far.
