The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a man considered to be armed and dangerous. They say 46-year-old David Lane forced his way into his estranged wife’s residence in the 4800 East block of County Road 200 North Monday night, threatened her with a firearm, battered her and threatened to harm himself and to commit “suicide by cop.”
The 34-year-old victim and her 5-year-old child fled the home and called for help from the Family Express station at the intersection of Fail Road and State Road 2. She was treated at LaPorte Hospital for her injuries.
Deputies searched the residence and immediate area for Lane and issued a bulletin to area law enforcement. His vehicle was located around 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 4500 block of East Scholl Road.
Officers set up a perimeter and initiated a K-9 and helicopter-assisted search but were unable to locate Lane. They’re not sure if he’s still in the area where his vehicle was found.
Lane is being sought for battery while causing serious bodily injury and burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, both of which are felony offenses. Authorities say he’s a white man who stands 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds and has a grey-brown receding hairline. Anyone who knows of his whereabouts is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency.
