Oregon-Davis School Board Updated on Curriculum Development

The Oregon-Davis School Board got an update Monday on the corporation’s curriculum overhaul.

“We did have three teachers present to our board with curriculum development that we’ve been working on this year, and the teachers presented samples of their curriculum work,” says Superintendent Don Harman. “We’ve stressed again this year to develop a K-through-12 curriculum and vertical articulation and collaboration with our teachers.”

He says vocabulary and literacy are big priorities. “We’re looking at helping our students understand key words when they are assessed,” Harman says. “For example, on an assessment, the word ‘justify’ is given. Well if a student does not understand the word ‘justify,’ they’re going to have a hard time answering that question.”

The new curriculum also emphasizes what Harman calls “21st Century skills.” These include critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.
