Pulaski County is moving ahead when it comes to health rankings. According to the annual County Health Rankings released by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute, Pulaski County now ranks 47th of Indiana’s 92 counties when it comes to health outcomes. That’s three places better than last year’s report, driven by improvements in length of life.
When it comes to health factors, such as health behaviors, education levels, and access to health care, Pulaski County jumped ahead from 46th to 37th place. The percentage of adults who smoke dropped three percent. However, the obesity rate remained the same.
Pulaski County’s best category was physical environment, where it placed 13th in the state. While that’s down from last year’s ranking of fourth place, Pulaski County’s scores for factors such as air pollution, housing problems, and commute times were comparable with the state average.
