The Starke County Council has tabled a request from Clerk Vicki Cooley to raise the hourly wage for her part-time election clerk until more information can be gathered.
Cooley says the job carries a tremendous amount of responsibility and should be compensated accordingly. It’s the only part-time position in the clerk’s office. Part-time employees do not qualify for paid vacation or sick days.
Council members are reluctant to make change to the salary ordinance that might set a precedent for other county employees without first looking into the difference between permanent and temporary part-time workers and their job duties.
