Efforts by the City of Knox to obtain a grant to add on to the south side fire station have gotten a boost. U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski has written a letter to the community development block grant manager with the state Office of Community and Rural Affairs in support of the project.
The city wants to add more bays to the fire station on South Heaton Street, including one to house the historic 1935 Studebaker fire engine. Plans also call for the installation of showers and construction of a connector between the conference room and the storage and equipment area.
Knox Councilman Jeff Berg has also reached out to State Rep. Jim Pressel and Sen. Mike Bohacek to seek support for the grant.
Meanwhile, members of the Knox Fire Department are still collecting income survey data from residents as part of that process. All information gathered will be kept strictly confidential. Also survey responses will not require residents to give out personal information. The surveys need to be completed by March 10th.
