The Winamac Town Park Pavilion will be getting an upgrade, but the town’s park board has backed off on plans to cover it with steel. On Thursday, the board approved a proposal submitted by Boardman Construction to replace rotten wood, paint the structure, and make a few other repairs.
Park board member Brad Zellers had suggested adding a steel cover, as a way to preserve the historic pavilion. But board member Chris Schramm said Thursday that idea proved unpopular with residents. “We’ve been talking about it for months,” Schramm said. “I’ve heard several people complain about the metal on there, so I like this [plan].”
The work is expected to cost just under $11,000. Since that’s just a rough estimate, the board members discussed requiring any potential change orders to be approved by either Zellers or the entire board, to make sure costs stay under control. The board voted to pay for the project out of the Park Gift Fund.
