The Eastern Pulaski School Board has decided to move ahead with some of the projects planned with money left over from the corporation’s recent renovation project.
On Monday, the school board approved several projects in the middle school gym. The bleachers are set to get new handrails, mid-steps, and end caps. The gym floor will be refinished.
Beyond that, Superintendent Dan Foster says repairs are planned to the masonry structure itself. “Some of the expansion joints have basically collapsed, and it’s caused some cracks in the structure,” he explains. “So that’s an importance fix, especially the southeast corner of the gym. They’re going to have to actually cut out chunks, and it’s going to take a little bit of work.”
The board also authorized the installation of LED lighting in the middle school principal’s office and high school guidance office. More new tables will be purchased for the middle school/high school cafeteria, and outdated wall and floor mats in the wrestling room will be replaced.
Foster says the board also approved the purchase of new furniture for the middle school/high school media center. “Kind of an Internet cafe feel – it’ll have some of the higher table tops and some of the more comfortable seating and not just your traditional tables and chairs in a library anymore, so dressing it up a little bit.”
However, board members decided to hold off on getting new curtains for the auditorium. “We had some clarification, and I think we’re going to add just a little piece to that puzzle,” Foster says. “So we’re going to take those quotes back to them, and we have a couple other items we’re working on to bring to the board in the future.”
Asphalt and concrete work is planned for the corporation’s parking lots. A special meeting is scheduled for next Monday to choose a contractor.
