Starke County residents will have a chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at the recently renovated former jail and courthouse during a program today. The facilities will be dedicated during an 11 a.m. ceremony on the courthouse lawn. Afterward tours of both buildings will be offered.
The former jail will be the new home of Starke County Community Corrections, the probation department and Purdue Extension.
The courthouse renovations bring the historic structure into compliance with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act and improve security. Public access to the building will be limited to one door, which will be staffed by courthouse security personnel operating a metal detector.
The Starke County Prosecutor’s Office will now be located in the courthouse. It was previously across the street in the basement.
WKVI will be broadcasting live from the open house and will also share today’s program on Sunday’s Kankakee Valley Viewpoints show. It airs at noon central on K99.3 WKVI FM.
