The Starke County Park Board is finalizing arrangements for an independent inspection of the Bass Lake Beach.
Last month, the county commissioners voted to give $300 from the county’s cumulative capital development fund for that purpose. Now, Park Board President Debbie Mix says the park board is working to arrange a date for the inspection.
It needs to be completed soon, in order for improvements to be made before the start of the summer season. Mix says the beach is already open, and water has been turned on to the facilities.
The park board decided to have an independent contractor to the work, after the board was unable to get a formal report from the county building inspector. Having formal documentation of the beach and campgroundās condition is seen as a way to give the county the option to end its lease with operator Callahan Development, LLC. Otherwise, it would automatically be extended.
