North Judson’s utility rates will be discussed during a special town council meeting this evening. Accounting firm Umbaugh and Associates has been studying the town’s rates. Representatives are expected to share their findings with the town council tonight at 6:00.
Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins has pointed out that rates haven’t gone up since 2003, and they may be due for an increase. But a bigger concern is potential water and wastewater upgrades.
Commonwealth Engineers is suggesting nearly $1.9 million in improvements to the town’s combined sewer overflow system and another $1.5 million for upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant. Water infrastructure upgrades are also planned.
During tonight’s special session, council members will further discuss possible grant opportunities. The rest of the money would be raised by issuing bonds, which would require utility rates to go up to cover the town’s bond payment.
