The Winamac Park Board will consider how to proceed with a potential grant application during tonight’s meting. The swimming pool rebuilding effort or other park projects may soon be able to move forward, now that the town is eligible for grants from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Board members planned to meet last week with DNR officials to learn how to maximize the town’s chances for grant funding. An application would likely have to be turned in by next month, for Winamac to have a chance of getting a DNR grant this year.
While getting such a grant could be a major step forward for the swimming pool project, it also depends on whether the town would be able to afford to run the pool once it’s built. Park board members are still doing their research, when it comes to pool expenses. They’ve pointed out that there are other projects that would also benefit from the grant funding, should they decide to go in a different direction.
In other business tonight, the park board will continue to discuss design options for a decorative archway and benches at Veterans Memorial Park. Tonight’s Winamac Park Board meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. at the Winamac Municipal Utility Complex.
