Pulaski County is hoping to cut costs by reevaluating its copier lease and maintenance agreements. Auditor Laura Wheeler told the county commissioners Monday that a lot of money is being spent on copiers, and she wanted to know how much a buyout would cost.
Copiers Plus has been providing those services since about 2010. Company representative Chris Smith said a complete buyout would cost $88,000. However, he agreed to break that cost down, in case the county just wants to buy out a few of the copiers’ contracts.
Smith told the commissioners that his company has actually saved the county money over the years. “Before they came to us in 2010, they had no idea what they were spending until we kind of put it all together for them,” he said. “Now, you’ve got something every month. You see, ‘Okay, our lease is $1,800 or $2,000 a month.’ And then our service costs – and that’s all printers and everything – is $2,800. It looks like a large number, but if you see where we came from, it’s much less money.”
Where the county spends a lot of money, according to Smith, is on color printing for the EMS department, circuit court, and sheriff’s department.
