An organization working to boost educational opportunities for women is making one last push in its shoe collection campaign. The local chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization has teamed up with an organization called Funds2Orgs.com to collect new and gently worn shoes.
P.E.O. Vice-President Mary Kleinfehn says 1,800 pairs of shoes have been donated so far, but they need to collect 700 more by Monday to reach their goal. Funds2Orgs will then take the shoes and distribute them to people in developing countries, to help them launch and grow small businesses. In return, P.E.O. will receive funds for its scholarship and grant programs, to help open up educational opportunities for women.
Collection boxes are available at Five Star, Community Services of Starke County and at the WKVI studios in Knox.
