When Marshall County employers were recently interviewed on workforce development issues, it was discovered that training is one of the biggest needs for workers in the area. To help alleviate this problem, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Ancilla College and the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation are teaming up with local businesses to launch the Ancilla College Management and Leadership Training program such as Six Sigma Master Black Belt.
In January, the MCEDC launched a Workforce Development Program where one-on-one interviews were conducted with approximately 25% of businesses in the community. In these interviews, local employers suggested entry and mid-level supervision management training in order to improve the existing workforce. Training programs will be adapted in order to address specific employer needs.
Bremen Castings, Inc is the first Marshall County business to participate in the training program. Ten BCI employees enrolled and training started earlier this month. Jack Jordan, a board member for both Ancilla and BCI said he feels confident this training will equip and inspire participants to become competent, performance improving managers and leaders.
The program is a two-tier system where the first tier focuses on getting first time managers off to a successful start while the second tier aims to refine the skills of mid-level managers. Each training session costs $79 per participant with 2 sessions in each module. Each session is about 3 hours long and is conducted by accredited Ancilla College School of Business staff. Training can take place at Ancilla or on site for the convenience of participating employees.
