Knox Man Dies from Injuries Sustained in July Crash on U.S. 30

A Knox man who was hurt in a crash on U.S. 30 back in July has since died from his injuries. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says Billy R. Jones, 64, was driving west on U.S. 30, approaching State Road 39 the morning of Thursday, July 20.

A witness reported seeing the Jeep Wrangler that Jones was driving roll off the roadway and end up in the median crossover. Police say they interviewed Jones after the crash, but he didn’t recall what happened. Officers say it’s possible the Jeep was sideswiped by a westbound semi, but they haven’t been able to confirm that. The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says it was notified of Jones’ death by the St. Joseph County Coroner’s Office on August 11.

Then this past Wednesday, the St. Joseph County Coroner told LaPorte County police that Rossie O. Terry, 82, of Michigan City had died, after he was injured in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 20 on July 19. Deputies believe Terry was driving east on U.S. 20 when he rear-ended a vehicle that was waiting to turn left onto County Road 300 East.

A total of 15 people died in vehicle crashes in LaPorte County during the month of July, according to the sheriff’s office. That’s the same number seen during all of 2016.
