The Starke County Movies in the Park series is coming to the Hamlet Town Park next month, and organizers are asking for some local businesses to help sponsor the event. Town officials first approved the idea this spring, but plans didn’t come together until Wednesday’s town council meeting.
Starke County Community Action Network member Josh Schreiner told council members that the license to show a movie outside costs between $375 and $500. “We’re just looking for, maybe, anybody who would like to sponsor it,” he said. “We’ll, of course, supply the equipment and the manpower to come over here, set it up, tear it down.”
In North Judson, one business typically covers the entire cost. In return, that sponsor gets to choose that night’s movie.
However, Hamlet plans to accept multiple sponsors. Council member Brian Earnest said some local businesses were concerned about having to cover the entire cost, but would be willing to contribute a smaller amount.
The town council decided to get the ball rolling by chipping in $200 for the first movie. Council members also set a date of Saturday, September 9. Town officials have not yet decided which movie they want to show.
