Pulaski County Commissioners Renew Contract with County Attorney Kevin Tankersley

The Pulaski County Commissioners will keep their current attorney. They voted Monday to renew their contract with Kevin Tankersley through the end of 2020.

Commissioner Mike McClure said Tankersley has done a good job for the county. “I think we need to keep Kevin,” McClure said. “All three of the commissioners are kind of rookie. The auditor, she’s a rookie, too. And for us to change attorneys in the middle of the stream I kind of feel is non-beneficial. I think it’s beneficial to keep Kevin on.”

Tankersley pointed out they are allowed to change their mind at any time. “Well, this has got a 90-day cancellation policy, so anytime anybody wants to change it, you can change it, with 90 days notice,” he said. “That’s to protect both you guys and me.”

He originally asked commissioners Kenny Becker and Jerry Locke to approve the contract renewal last month, before McClure was chosen to fill the third commissioner’s seat. But they decided to wait, since Becker wanted a third commissioner in place and Auditor Laura Wheeler was concerned that the commissioners didn’t fully understand the contract.

At the time, Tankersley explained that there would be no change in the terms.
