During the public input portion of the Winamac Park Board meeting Thursday evening, Louise Gudas talked to the board about further additions to the skate park.
Louise is the mother of Clark Gudas, the Eagle Scout who was instrumental in the construction of the Winamac Skate Park. The final step left to complete the project is installing the recognition bricks that display the names of those who contributed funds for building the skate park.
Gudas said that 90 recognition bricks are ready to be installed and she suggested placing them adjacent to the skate park at ground level, preferably on the north side of the park since the south side has been left open for potential future expansion.
Gudas said the skate park would incur the cost of installment and though she didn’t have any specific designs in mind, she felt they could possibly be a part of a side walk or run along side a pathway. If they were used as a part of a side walk, more non-marked bricks would need to be purchased to fill in the space. Board members and Gudas both agreed it wouldn’t cost much more to purchase the blank filler bricks and it is potentially a possibility.
Board member and Town Manager Brad Zellers provided a bit of advice to Gudas about how to get the ball rolling with the finishing touches of the project.
Zellers said “You know, it was a part of his project, I think that’s great. My thought would be go over there with a can of paint and mark on the ground where you think it should be.”
Zellers also suggested that Gudas speak with Park Manager Dave Delorenzo to make sure the placement would still permit mowing in the selected spot. The board voted to approve the request, pending Zeller’s approval of the area.
