Pulaski County’s court system remains busy, and that means costs continue to add up. To deal with a backlog in cases, Pulaski Circuit Court is now open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., instead of its usual hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Now, Circuit Court Judge Michael Shurn is asking for an additional $10,000 to cover additional overtime costs, while Prosecutor Dan Murphy says he needs another $9,400, due to the extra hours. Last week, the Pulaski County Council agreed to advertise the requests for additional appropriations, and discuss them in more detail next month.
During the same meeting, council members finalized $130,000 in additional appropriations for Circuit Court’s budget for pauper counsel and $9,000 for various Superior Court line items. On top of that, an additional $20,000 was appropriated for building and structure repair at the Pulaski County Courthouse.
