Snack food producer Gary Poppins is still expected to move into the former Stelrema building north of Knox by the end of this year.
That’s what Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Charlie Weaver told the Hamlet Town Council last week. “If you’ve driven by the Stelrema Building and you saw a sign out there that said, ‘For Lease,’ don’t get excited,” he said. “Because the company’s going to only be using the new part of the building, so they’re looking for tenants for the westerly, the older part of the building, and that’s what that ‘For Lease’ sign is about.”
He said that while the building hasn’t officially changed hands yet, he still expects Gary Poppins to take possession of the building next month and begin manufacturing in December.
