Upgrades to the Bass Lake Beach seawall will continue to be discussed during tonight’s Starke County Park Board meeting. Board members are calling on facility operator Callahan Development, LLC to stabilize the seawall surrounding the beach house patio. Representatives from the county discussed the issue with Callahan’s attorney last month, and the entire board is expected to get an update tonight.
Board members may also consider forming a work group with several local stakeholders, to set goals for the future of the Bass Lake Beach and Campground. The idea was proposed last month by Park Board President Debbie Mix. But the park board decided to hold off on seeking volunteers, after board member Rosemary Rose expressed concerns about how productive such a group would be.
In other business tonight, the park board will formally open bids from timber companies interested in harvesting wood from the Starke County Forest. Forester Bruce Wakeland expects the timber sale will generate at least $5,000 for the forest.
Tonight’s Starke County Park Board meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. in Starke County Annex Building No. 1.
