After a few weeks of consideration, the Pulaski County Commissioners have decided to continue with the county’s membership in the National Association of Counties.
The organization advocates for counties on national policy, while providing resources to county governments. But Pulaski County Auditor Laura Wheeler says there are some perks for residents, as well. “There was quite a bit of benefits to the citizens of Pulaski County, as far as medical discounts,” she told the commissioners last week. However, she wasn’t sure how many residents actually take advantage of the program.
In the end, the commissioners voted to pay the $450 membership fee to remain in the National Association of Counties. The issue was first brought to the commissioners’ attention in early October by former commissioner Terry Young, after the bill was sent to him personally, rather than the county government.
