LaPorte County Police are investigating the apparent shootings of two horses and possibly a cow last week. A sheriff’s deputy was called to the 7300 block of East Emery Road in Hudson Lake, after a resident noticed that two horses on his property appeared to have sustained bullet wounds, one in its front right leg, the other in its front left leg.
Officers say the horses did not appear to have been affected by the wounds, though. A veterinarian reportedly told the property owner that the injuries were not life-threatening and it would be better not to try removing the bullets.
Police say the pasture where the horses are kept is visible from the road, and the wounds appear to have been made by a large-caliber bullet. The homeowner reportedly told police that he hadn’t heard any gunshots.
LaPorte County Police say they discovered on social media that a cow in a nearby pasture may have also been shot, but that hasn’t actually been reported to police at this point. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sergeant Brian Piergelski at 219-326-7700 extension 2539.
