The future of Winamac’s swimming pool rebuilding effort will be discussed during an informational meeting this evening. It starts at 5:30 EST at the Pulaski County Public Library in Winamac.
Pool committee members plan to discuss what options exist going forward, now that the town has pulled its official support. They say they want to reassure those who have already donated that they’re not ready to give up on the project.
The total cost of rebuilding the pool is expected to be around $600,000. So far, about $135,000 has been raised in donations from residents and businesses. The Town of Winamac had also pledged $150,000, but whether it will actually have to give that money is still up for debate.
However, funds would also have to be raised for the ongoing operation of the pool, although admission fees would cover some of that cost. The town council decided to pull its financial support, after a sudden drop in county income tax revenues put the future of the town’s pool operations budget in doubt.
