LaPorte County Police Make 11 Arrests, Issue Over 100 Citations During Operation Pull Over Blitz

A recent Operation Pull Over blitz led to 11 arrests and more than 100 citations for the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office. The 24-day enforcement effort was funded with federal highway safety money administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. Officers say they’ll continue to crack down on impaired driving, seat belt violations, and other crimes, through the remainder of the holiday period.

Sheriff’s department officials are also offering some sober driving tips, to keep you and others safe while on the road: Designate a sober driver or offer to be one. If you’re organizing a party, offer non-alcoholic beverages and plenty of food. Celebrate at home or somewhere you can stay until you’re sober. Take the keys away from friends or family members about to drive drunk.

Officers add that wearing your seat belt also goes a long way in keeping yourself safe. According to statistics from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and Purdue University Center for Road Safety, about 93 percent of Hoosiers wear their seat belt. But those who don’t made up more than half of the state’s fatal crashes last year.
