Mayor Dennis Estok Discusses Peppermint Parade, Knox Holiday Decorating Contest Winners Announced

At the Knox City Council meeting this week, Mayor Dennis Estok discussed the success of the Peppermint Parade, stating that this year’s attendance numbers doubled from last year.

The mayor also gave a special thanks to Sherry Cowen who donated cookies, oranges and other goodies to the city’s snack supply. For the first time this year, the parade submissions were judged.

The winner for the non-profit category was Cub Scout Troop 13 and the church category winner was the United Baptist Church of Ober. The individual category winner was North Judson Mint Fest Princess Chloe Mitmoen and the winners for the business category were The Honey Hole and Bass Lake Bait and Tackle.

The award for best overall holiday spirit went to Dirt Works Excavating and Olson Real Estate for their Thomas the Tank Engine float.

At Tuesday night’s meeting Mayor Estok also mentioned how the procedure for the holiday decorating contest changed this year. Rather than having city officials travel all over town, looking at all decorated homes, they had individuals call in to indicate they wanted their decorations judged.

The winners of the holiday decoration contest were announced on Thursday. The winner of fourth place and $25 was Myrtle Gabbard who lives in the Golden Acres Senior Apartments. Gene and Marianne Wheeler who live on Carlson Drive won third place and also received $25. Second place went to Theresa Haas on Bower Street who won $50 for her decorations. The grand prize, first place winner and recipient of $100 was Rachel Fletcher on 500 E.
