The Starke County Clerk’s Office is getting its new early voting location ready for the May primary. In-person absentee voting will still take place in the Starke County Courthouse, but it will move from the Clerk’s Office on the second floor to a meeting room on the first floor.
Clerk Vicki Cooley gave an update on the plans during Thursday’s election board meeting. “Crystal’s going to take that little side room.” Cooley explained. “The absentee voting will be in the big room. Our security is talking about having people still come in the regular way, but they’ll be waiting over there by the south door, with chairs up. That way, they’re not all congregating right outside their space.”
As part of the process, Cooley said one of the computers from the Clerk’s Office will be moved to the voting room, during the absentee voting period. She explained that would allow her staff to complete other work, while also helping voters. However, Cooley said her office would have to lease another copier/printer.
