Pulaski County will have a new insurance provider in 2018. The county commissioners voted last week to switch to Bliss McKnight. The company’s premium is about $5,500 more than what the county’s current provider was offering for next year, but still about $6,000 less than what the county paid in 2017.
But County Attorney Kevin Tankersley noted that Bliss McKnight offers civil liberties coverage, while the current provider does not. “I can tell you, just on the 1983 claims, it would’ve saved us upwards of $30,000 last year,” he told the commissioners.
Also included in the cost of insurance are various continuing education opportunities for county employees, such as firearm and driving simulators for police oficers. On top of that, Bliss McKnight would provide supplemental legal help with thing like contracts and the employee policy handbook.
The company will let Pulaski County pay its premium on a quarterly basis, unlike the current provider, which requires an annual payment.
