Pulaski County Comp Time Policy May Be Reviewed by Personnel Committee

Updates to Pulaski County’s comp time policy may have to wait until the county’s personnel committee has a chance to review it. The county commissioners have been considering increasing the amount of comp time that can be carried over from year to year from 20 to 40 hours. Part of the reason is to make it easier for employees to use it for needed medical procedures.

The change would require the approval of both the commissioners and the county council. But during a discussion last week, County Attorney Kevin Tankersley told the commissioners it should actually go to the personnel committee first. “I would just put it on the list of things that we’re going to discuss at the policy book meeting when we have one,” he said. “We didn’t schedule one right away because we literally just did a new book.”

The commissioners decided to hold off on taking any action until the personnel committee has a chance to meet. The issue came up when an employee in the Assessor’s Office planned to use 42 hours of comp time to have a knee replacement in January. The commissioners agreed back in October to allow her to carry over the extra 22 hours, but they also wanted to look into changing the policy itself.
