The Winamac Park Board has cleared the way for its advisory council to restructure as a “Friends of the Parks” group. Board members passed a resolution Thursday that formally abolished the advisory council. That will allow the group to reorganize as a “Friends of the Parks” group.
The change was requested by the advisory council itself. Under the new format, members say they will continue to raise money and coordinate volunteers. But by being less structured, they feel they could get more people to get involved. The advisory council had nine members appointed by the park board, but a Friends group could open up its membership to the general public.
