The Starke County Public Library has a new director! Community members will have a chance to meet Director Kathleen Bowman next month when the library hosts a meet-and-greet.
Bowman started in December of last year but she said the library board has been giving her some time to get acclimated to the area and the position before holding the welcome party.
Bowman is originally from Mishawaka and shared that she used to work for the school system there.
She explained, “I actually used to work for the School City of Mishawaka and I was part of their exceptional learners program and assisted students who had physical or mental disabilities.”
Bowman has a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Holy Cross College in South Bend and she received her Master’s Degree in Library Science from IU Bloomington this past May. She explained that she did an internship at Greenwood Public Library and though the size was a bit bigger, she said she hopes to bring the same kind of the community-driven programs to Starke County.
The new director said she’s excited to get more familiar with the area and wants to ensure that community needs are being met. She said she looks forward to forming partnerships with local schools and getting the word out about library events.
The open house to introduce the new director will be held on Saturday, February 10th from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. CT at the Henry F. Schricker Library in Knox.
