Winamac Council Closes Out 2017 Budget, Commends Police Officer

The Winamac Town Council approved a few end-of-the-year items during a brief special meeting Friday morning. According to information provided by Clerk-Treasurer Melanie Berger, council members approved the last batches of claims from 2017.

They also passed a resolution to transfer money between various line items within the town’s budget. It’s a typical step at the end of each year, as local governments look for leftover money in various line items and use it to balance out shortfalls in other parts of the budget.

In other business, council members voted to update the job descriptions for the town’s wastewater foreman, as well as laborers in the water, wastewater, and street departments. The council approved the amendments to the job duties and responsibilities, following a discussion about the timeframe for employee certifications.

The Winamac Town Council also commended Police Officer Tyler Campbell. On Christmas morning, Campbell helped a family who delivered a baby unexpectedly.
