Knox City Police Chief Harold Smith reported that earlier today, a call came into 911 dispatch advising Police, Fire and EMS of a vehicle leaving the roadway and hitting a fence near the intersection of Culver Road and Main Street.
Chief Smith said the female caller indicated that it was unknown if the male driver was breathing. Police Officer Chad Keen and Detective Eric Vanderheof were the first on the scene and it was determined that the male subject was blue in color, was not breathing and did not have a pulse.
According to Smith, they immediately pulled the man from his vehicle, laid him on the ground and began CPR. Members of EMS and the Fire Department then arrived and took over.
Smith said the last update he received stated that the male subject was unconscious with stable vitals at IU Starke and that they are planning to transfer him to another hospital.
Chief Smith noted the name of the driver is not being released at this time since family members still need to be contacted.
