The Starke County Election Board has finalized the wording of the Oregon-Davis school referendum.
Voters in Oregon and Davis townships will be asked to answer yes or no to the question, “For the eight calendar years immediately following the holding of the referendum, shall the Oregon-Davis School Corporation impose a property tax rate that does not exceed twenty-nine cents ($0.290) on each one hundred dollars ($100) of assessed valuation and that is in addition to all other property taxes imposed by the Oregon-Davis School Corporation for the purpose of funding current and future educational and operational expenditures?”
The election board verified Wednesday that the wording that will appear on the May 8 ballot does match the version certified by the state. However, it was noted that the state made some minor adjustments to the school corporation’s attorney’s original language.
It was part of the Starke County Election Board’s lengthy process of going through all the county’s ballots and making sure they match each candidate’s filing documents.
