The City of Knox will be working with residents and business owners to replace damaged sidewalks.
The Mayor’s Office recently issued a press release that states they will receive requests for residential and business sidewalk replacements until all available funds are used, on a first come, first served basis until the money to support the program runs out.
According to the release, the street superintendent will measure and inspect the requested area and approve or disapprove of the work order. If it is approved, the next step is to bid the project out to contractors.
After the bid is awarded, the property owner will be notified of the cost and must provide 50 percent to the city before construction can commence. The property owner’s portion of the payment must be provided within fourteen days of the notification or the project will be placed on the bottom of the work schedule.
Upon completion of the work, the street superintendent will make one final inspection and approve payment to the contractor.
Applications must be dated and received by 4 p.m. on Friday, May 4th. To request an application or to ask any questions about the 2018 sidewalk replacement program, contact the Mayor’s Office at 574-772-4553.
