Culver School Board Approves Summer School Teacher, Summer Band Program

The Culver School Board continues to make arrangements for summer school classes. On Monday, board members approved the appointment of Mary James as the summer school teacher for Culver Community Middle/High School. They also gave permission for band director Jason Crittendon to offer a summer band program.

Meanwhile, Culver Elementary School will offer a summer remediation program for third graders who didn’t pass the recent IREAD test. Superintendent Karen Shuman told board members Monday that about 12 students will be taking part. “A majority of them have IEPs, so there’s already been a reading deficit identified prior to them coming in third grade,” she explained. “We just need to give them some more individualized attention in the summer to have them pass the IREAD test.”

The IREAD remediation program was approved by the school board earlier this month.
