Eastern Pulaski School Corporation Returns Nearly $39,000 in Grant Money it Failed to Spend

The Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation is returning nearly $39,000 in grant money to the U.S. Department of Education, after it failed to spend it in time.

Superintendent Dan Foster told the school board that Eastern Pulaski received the two grants in 2010 and 2012, but for some reason, the money was never used. “After the recession, it was a boost to the economy,” he explained. “One of it was jobs stimulus money, and you could do a lot of different things, not just jobs. The other part of it was education jobs money that was given. And it had to be used by a certain time, and if it was not, then it needed to be returned.”

Foster said school officials have finally been notified of the issue. “It’s kind of frustrating to have to send it back, but the deadline’s passed,” he said. “It should’ve been used.”

The Eastern Pulaski School Board unanimously approved the payment last week as part of the claim docket.
