Culver’s new Park Superintendent has been busy preparing the park and beach for the summer season.
Park Superintendent Amber Cowell attended her first town council meeting Tuesday night. In her report, she announced that the beach will be opening this Saturday. In conjunction with opening day of the beach, an open house to welcome Amber to her new position is being held at Culver Beach Lodge.
Cowell is a Culver Academy graduate. She officially started serving as park superintendent on Monday, May 21st, literally one day after graduating from college. She attended Centre College in Kentucky where she majored in Environmental Studies.
Town Manager Jonathan Leist shared that Cowell previously served as a Culver Beach lifeguard for several years and she was an intern for his office and the Parks Department last summer.
As an intern, she worked closely with former Park Superintendent Anna Campbell-Nowalk and would fill in for her occasionally. Leist explained that allowed Cowell to get familiarized with certain duties and responsibilities associated with the position.
The Town Manager said the town officials were very excited that Cowell expressed an interest in the position and they believe she will be a great fit.
Community members can meet the new park superintendent at tomorrow’s open house from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on the main floor of the Culver Beach Lodge.
