Pulaski County Hazardous Waste Day Set for May 19

Pulaski County’s Household Hazardous Waste Day returns this month, but residents will have to pay to get rid of tires. The event will take place Saturday, May 19 from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Pulaski County Recycling Center in Winamac.

The Northwest Indiana Solid Waste District no longer offers extra tire pickup as part of its Hazardous Waste Days. Pulaski County Recycling & Transfer Station Manager Brad Bonnell told the county council and commissioners recently that he’s decided to accept tires anyway, but he’ll charge the regular price. That’s four dollars for passenger car tires, 20-inch and smaller. Semi truck tires cost eight dollars to dispose, while ag tires are $15 and up.

Other items that will be accepted include batteries, oil, chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, and pesticides.
