The Pulaski County Highway Department is looking to hire an outside company to put together its asset management plan. The work was previously done by the Highway Department’s secretary, but the extra $2,500 she received for those duties was apparently cut from the department’s budget.
Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff told the county commissioners Monday that he got two quotes for the work. “Well, I got USI would be roughly from $5,000 to $10,000 a year. If we rate the roads, they draw it all out with the signs and everything. HWC’s another one. White County uses them, and it’d be $20,000 that way.” Even though it would be significantly more expensive, Ruff felt that it might be easier to make the funds available to hire an outside company than to adjust his employee’s salary.
An asset management plan is required, for counties, cities, and towns to be eligible for Community Crossings grant funding. Pulaski County received well over a million dollars in Community Crossings grants, during the first two years of the program.
